    Surprisingly Average

Nice resort. Honestly, we expected much more. Great location with super-easy and convenient access to Silver Lake base area and a short walk to lifts from which you can easily navigate the entire mountain. Fabulous breakfast buffet. WiFi worked well. Room was nice and well furnished but certainly not exceptional, and resort is showing its age (leaky shower, other minor material deficiencies). Nothing at all notable about the hot tubs (small, dirty, and isolated) or pool. Common lounge areas are nice but small. With the exception of one cranky driver, the staff was otherwise generally friendly, and the service was excellent. The hotel surprised us on check-out with a $27+ per night "amenity fee," reportedly to cover rather-standard and advertised amenities such as bottled water in the room (!) and shuttle service to town. We are still trying to recover that bogus up-charge. I would consider staying at the Chateaux again because it would be difficult to improve on the convenience of the location. It is a fine resort, but its characterization as one of the best hotels in the country is nonsense.

    Simple Elegance!

The Chateaux is a friendly gem of a hotel that boasts the best amenities without the huge price tag. We stayed for 4 nights in January and had an awesome time. The hotel was quiet, convenient to the slopes and had European touches we didn't expect for the price. Large soaker whirlpool tubs in the rooms, luxurious linens, turndown service and the sumptuous breakfast buffet were just some of the features that made for a memorable stay.
